Traditional Bars and Pubs in Edinburgh

Edinburgh traditional pubs usually offer a wide selection of local or Scottish real ales and malt whiskies, and menus ranging from quality hot and cold meals to snacks. The interiors of traditional Edinburgh pubs are frequently late Victorian, and they often retain their original period features. It is not unusual to encounter an original island bar, Jacobean-style ceiling, beautiful stained glass windows and etched mirrors. These features serve to enhance the traditional atmosphere and charm of these traditional Edinburgh pubs.

10am - 1am Daily

The Barony

81-85 Broughton Street

The Barony, in the New Town at the bottom of Broughton Street, is a traditional Edinburgh pub, with an open fire and lots of wood and mirrors. It serves a range of traditional ales from proper brass pumps, plus the standard lagers, along with a good selection of wines and whiskies. During the day it serves bog-standard pub grub - decent pies, etc. which are reasonably priced, and the portions are good. It is a hangout of trendy-ish 20 to 30-somethings, with a smattering of old-timers and, being Broughton Street, the atmosphere is relaxed and genial. There is no music, so conversation is easy, and there are plenty of tables and chairs.
